Karoon 4 Dam is located on the Karoon River in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, approximately 180 km southwest of Shahrekord, downstream of the Armand and Bazoft Rivers.
The primary objective of the project is to generate hydroelectric power and control flooding in the upstream area of Karoon 3 Dam.
Following the award of the contract for the excavation and construction of the dam body to an executive consortium comprising Jahad Tosee Manabe Aab, Behan Sad, and Hamoon, the contract for the excavation and concreting of galleries and the cut-off shield of Karoon 4 Dam was awarded to Omran Maroon Engineering Company with the approval of the Iran Water and Power Resources Development Organization as the project owner and Mahab Ghodss Consulting Engineering Company as the project consultant.
The Karoon 4 Dam Underground Works formed a key component of the overall dam construction program, involving the excavation and concrete lining of underground galleries and the execution of the dam cut-off shield. These works were awarded to Omran Maroon Engineers Co. following the approval of the project owner and consultant as part of the overall Karoon 4 Dam development.
As the Subcontractor, Omran Maroon Engineers Co. executed the underground construction activities in coordination with the main contracting joint venture, ensuring compliance with the project’s engineering specifications, construction standards, and contractual requirements throughout the execution period.
The project scope included the construction of 7,000 meters of galleries, 7,900 meters of tunnel and gallery excavation, 17,000 meters of drainage drilling, 35,000 meters of exploratory drilling, 300,000 meters of grout curtain, and 21,000 m³ of lining concrete. These works represent critical underground infrastructure required for the long-term safety, stability, and performance of the Karoon 4 Dam.
The underground construction works of Karoon 4 Dam created employment opportunities for multidisciplinary engineering, tunneling, drilling, and construction professionals throughout the project execution. The excavation of tunnels and galleries, drainage and exploratory drilling, grout curtain installation, and lining concrete works required the coordinated efforts of specialized technical teams to ensure the successful completion of this critical underground infrastructure.
As the Subcontractor, Omran Maroon Engineers Co. participated in the execution of these specialized underground works, coordinating construction activities and supporting the efficient deployment of technical personnel while ensuring full compliance with the project’s engineering specifications and contractual requirements during the 36-month construction period.
Omran Maroon Engineers Co. manages the procurement and supply of construction materials, equipment, and site resources through an integrated supply chain management system. Procurement activities are carried out in accordance with project schedules, technical specifications, and quality requirements, ensuring the timely availability of materials and equipment while supporting efficient project execution.
