Concrete Pavement Works at Imam Khomeini Port
This project is located in the Special Economic Zone of Imam Khomeini Port, in Bandar-e Mahshahr, in the southern part of Khuzestan Province.
The main scope of work is the execution of concrete pavement in the port quay area, with a thickness ranging from 30 to 50 cm, using soil, lime, and fiber-reinforced concrete, over a total area of 520,000 m². This constitutes the most significant part of the project.
The Concrete Pavement Works at Imam Khomeini Port Project was undertaken to provide a durable, high-capacity pavement system for the operational areas of the Imam Khomeini Port Special Economic Zone. The project focused on the construction of heavy-duty concrete pavements designed to withstand intensive port traffic, container handling equipment, and heavy cargo transportation while ensuring long-term operational performance and reduced maintenance requirements.
The principal scope of work included the execution of 520,000 m² of concrete pavement with thicknesses ranging from 30 to 50 cm, utilizing soil stabilization, lime treatment, and fiber-reinforced concrete technology. The project also included all associated earthworks and structural pavement components required to provide a high-performance surface for quay operations and port logistics infrastructure.
Construction activities comprised 245,000 m³ of earthworks, 200,000 m³ of reinforced concrete, 2,400 tons of reinforcement, 130,000 m² of formwork, installation of 11 tons of UPVC plastic conduits, 520 tons of macro synthetic fibers, and 500 tons of dowel bars. Executed by Omran Maroon Engineers Co. as the Contractor, the project was carried out in accordance with port engineering standards, technical specifications, and contractual requirements throughout the 48-month construction period, delivering one of the largest heavy-duty concrete pavement systems within Iran’s port infrastructure.
The execution of the Concrete Pavement Works at Imam Khomeini Port Project engaged multidisciplinary engineering, technical, and construction teams throughout the project implementation. The construction of 520,000 m² of heavy-duty concrete pavement, together with large-scale earthworks, soil improvement, fiber-reinforced concrete works, and associated port infrastructure, required the coordinated efforts of specialists in pavement engineering, port infrastructure, reinforced concrete construction, geotechnical engineering, material technology, and construction management.
The project’s extensive construction volume, including 245,000 m³ of earthworks, 200,000 m³ of concrete placement, and the installation of macro synthetic fibers, dowel bars, and utility conduits, required efficient workforce planning, continuous technical supervision, and close coordination among engineering and construction teams to ensure pavement quality, structural durability, operational safety, and compliance with port engineering standards throughout all phases of execution.
As the Contractor, Omran Maroon Engineers Co. managed and coordinated all construction activities, ensuring effective workforce organization and the successful delivery of the project in full compliance with technical specifications, contractual requirements, and project objectives throughout the 48-month construction period.
