Construction of Section 3 of Lot 6A – Chabahar–Zahedan Railway
The Chabahar–Zahedan Railway, with a total length of 610 km, is located in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. The project covers the construction of Section 3 of Lot 6A, extending from Km 384+340 to Km 387+434, with a total length of 3,094 m. The contract was awarded to Omran Maroon Engineering Co. in 2020.
The scope of work includes earthworks, the construction of tunnels, galleries, bridges, culverts, and retaining walls.
The main components of the project include the construction of three railway tunnels with entrance and exit portals, having a total length of 2,435 m, a 9 m diameter, and a horseshoe-shaped cross-section of 56 m²; the construction of a two-span bridge with 30 m spans and a total length of 60 m; and the construction of a 210 m trench path.
The Section 3 of Lot 6A – Chabahar–Zahedan Railway Project forms part of the 610 km Chabahar–Zahedan Railway, one of Iran’s strategic railway corridors. The project covers the construction of Section 3 of Lot 6A, extending from Km 384+340 to Km 387+434, with a total length of 3,094 m, providing critical infrastructure for the expansion of the national railway network.
The scope of work includes earthworks, railway tunnels, access galleries, bridges, culverts, and retaining walls. Major project components comprise the construction of three railway tunnels with entrance and exit portals, having a combined length of 2,435 m, a 9 m diameter, and a 56 m² horseshoe-shaped cross-section, together with a two-span bridge featuring 30 m spans and a total length of 60 m, as well as the construction of a 210 m railway trench.
Construction activities included 135,000 m³ of earthworks, 7,500 m³ of reinforced concrete, 1,500 tons of reinforcement, 65,000 m² of formwork, 700 tons of lattice girders, 1,100 tons of steel mesh, 1,100 m³ of shotcrete, and 65,000 m² each of geotextile and geomembrane installation. Executed by Omran Maroon Engineers Co. as the Subcontractor, the project was carried out in accordance with railway engineering standards, technical specifications, and contractual requirements throughout the 18-month construction period, delivering essential tunnel and railway infrastructure for the Chabahar–Zahedan Railway corridor.
The execution of Section 3 of Lot 6A – Chabahar–Zahedan Railway Project engaged multidisciplinary engineering, technical, and construction teams throughout the project implementation. The construction of railway tunnels, bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and railway earthworks, together with the installation of specialized tunnel support systems, required the coordinated efforts of specialists in tunneling, railway engineering, geotechnical engineering, reinforced concrete construction, shotcrete application, and underground infrastructure.
The project’s technically demanding scope, including the excavation of three railway tunnels, installation of lattice girders, steel mesh, shotcrete, geotextile, and geomembrane systems, as well as bridge and railway infrastructure construction, required efficient workforce planning, continuous technical supervision, and close coordination among engineering and construction teams to maintain construction quality, operational safety, and compliance with railway engineering standards throughout all phases of execution.
As the Subcontractor, Omran Maroon Engineers Co. managed and coordinated all assigned construction activities, ensuring effective workforce organization and the successful execution of the project in full compliance with technical specifications, contractual requirements, and project objectives throughout the 18-month construction period.
