The Masjed Soleyman Dam is located in Khuzestan Province, southwestern Iran, on the Karun River.

The project was awarded to Omran Maroon Engineers Co. in the second quarter of 2020 for the rehabilitation and strengthening of the HPP cavern, the transformer cavern, and the right-bank trench slopes of the Masjed Soleyman Dam.

The project includes the construction of two tunnels: one 464 m long with a 7.4 × 7 m cross-section and another 524 m long with a 4.5 × 5 m cross-section. The support system includes the installation of restraint cables and rock bolts on the cavern walls and roof.

In the transformer cavern, the works include the construction of concrete walls and the installation of tendons and rock bolts. The stabilization works on the right-bank trench slopes include shotcrete, berm repairs, and the installation of tendons and rock bolts.

in addition In this project, 90,000 m of Rock Bolt, 86,000 m of Strand, and 32,000 m² of Geotextile were installed.

About This Project

The Masjed Soleyman Dam Rehabilitation Project focuses on the strengthening and rehabilitation of critical underground structures within the hydropower complex, including the powerhouse cavern, transformer cavern, and right-bank trench slopes. The scope of work also includes the construction of new underground access tunnels and the implementation of comprehensive rock support and stabilization measures to enhance the long-term structural integrity and operational reliability of the facility. Through the integrated execution of underground excavation, structural rehabilitation, and slope stabilization works, the project contributes to the safe and sustainable operation of one of Iran’s major hydropower infrastructures.

Employment

The project execution involved comprehensive underground construction and rehabilitation activities, including tunnel excavation, installation of advanced rock support systems, concrete structural works, and stabilization of underground caverns and rock slopes. The scope also covered the installation of rock bolts, tendons, reinforcement systems, shotcrete application, and structural concrete works to ensure the long-term stability, safety, and operational reliability of the hydropower facilities throughout the rehabilitation process.
