Economic Benefits

The project is located approximately 50 km southeast of Dargaz City in Razavi Khorasan Province, Iran, near Zangelanlou Village.

The project aims to transfer water from the Zangelanlou drainage area to the Shurkal drainage area, irrigate the southeastern agricultural lands of Dargaz, and store surplus water for the irrigation of Lotfabad lands.

The scope of work includes the construction of a 14 km access road, 7 m in width, connecting the tunnel outlet to the intake structure. The project also includes a 5,700 m water transfer tunnel with a 4 m diameter circular section, designed to convey water efficiently between the two drainage areas.

The Zangelanlou Concrete Diversion Dam, constructed across the Zangelanlou River, has a crest length of 75 m and a height of 12 m. The dam consists of an Ogee spillway, an intake structure, and a sediment catcher, ensuring efficient water diversion and sediment management.

About This Project

The Zangelanlou Water Transfer Project is a major water infrastructure development located near Zangelanlou Village, approximately 50 km southeast of Dargaz, Iran. The project comprises the construction of water diversion and conveyance facilities, including a concrete diversion dam, water transfer tunnel, and associated infrastructure designed to support the overall water transmission system.

Omran Maroon Engineers Co. served as the Main Contractor, executing the construction works in accordance with the project’s engineering specifications and contractual requirements throughout the implementation period.

The project includes a 12-meter-high concrete diversion dam with a 75-meter crest length, a 5,700-meter water transfer tunnel, and a 14 km access road. Major construction activities comprised 1,805,000 m³ of rock excavation, 614,000 m³ of embankment works, 78,000 m³ of concrete placement, 3,200 tons of reinforcement, and 28,000 m of grout injection, reflecting the scale and technical complexity of this strategic water transfer project.

Employment

The implementation of the Zangelanlou Water Transfer Project created employment opportunities for multidisciplinary engineering, technical, and construction teams throughout the construction period. The execution of large-scale rock excavation, embankment works, reinforced concrete construction, grout injection, tunnel construction, and access road development required the coordinated efforts of specialized professionals across multiple engineering disciplines.

As the Main Contractor, Omran Maroon Engineers Co. managed and coordinated construction activities, supporting effective workforce organization and ensuring the successful execution of this strategic water infrastructure project in accordance with technical specifications and contractual requirements throughout the 42-month construction period.
