The project site is located approximately 120 km from the city of Urmia. The Kanisib Dam and the Badin Abad Diversion Tunnel are situated approximately 15 km and 20 km, respectively, from the city of Piranshahr.
The project comprises four major components: the 68 m high Kanisib Dam; the Badin Abad concrete diversion dam with a height of 4.5 m and a length of 100 m; a 6 km water transmission canal; and a soil-cement sediment collector dam with a height of 12 m, together with the associated access roads.
The Kanisib Dam is an earth-fill dam with a clay core, constructed across the Glass River. The spillway and flood discharge system are located on the right abutment of the dam. The reservoir volume at elevation 1380 has been estimated at 327 million cubic meters.
The dam type of this project is Earth Fill with Clay Core. The grout injection is 44,500 m and the access road length is 20 km.
The Kanisib Dam and Badin Abad Diversion Tunnel Project is a major hydraulic infrastructure development comprising an earth-fill dam with a clay core, a diversion tunnel, and associated water control facilities. The project includes the construction of the main dam body together with the hydraulic structures required for long-term reservoir operation and water conveyance.
The project features a 68-meter-high dam with a 795-meter crest length, a 530-meter tunnel, and a reservoir with a storage capacity of 220 million cubic meters. Construction activities included 2,500,000 m³ of rock excavation, 3,216,000 m³ of embankment works, 304,000 m³ of concrete placement, 9,250 tons of reinforcement, and 179,000 m² of formwork, together with 44,500 m of grout injection and the construction of 20 km of access roads to support project implementation.
Executed by Omran Maroon Engineers Co. as the Contractor, the project was completed in accordance with engineering standards and contractual specifications during the 36-month construction period, delivering durable hydraulic infrastructure for reservoir operation and integrated water management.
The execution of the Kanisib Dam and Badin Abad Diversion Tunnel Project engaged multidisciplinary engineering, technical, and construction teams throughout the project implementation. The construction of the earth-fill dam, diversion tunnel, reservoir facilities, and associated hydraulic structures, together with large-scale rock excavation, embankment works, reinforced concrete construction, grout injection, and access road development, required the coordinated efforts of experienced professionals across multiple civil engineering disciplines.
As the Contractor, Omran Maroon Engineers Co. managed and coordinated all major construction activities, supporting efficient workforce organization and ensuring the successful execution of the project in full compliance with technical specifications and contractual requirements throughout the 36-month construction period.
