Economic Benefits

The Balarud Diversion Tunnel and Reservoir Dam is located on the Balarud River in Khuzestan Province, approximately 27 km from the city of Andimeshk, along the main Andimeshk–Tehran route.

The dam was developed to regulate the flow of the Balarud River and provide irrigation water for approximately 12,600 hectares of downstream agricultural land.

The project comprises the construction of the diversion tunnel, reservoir dam, and associated hydraulic infrastructure required for water resource management and agricultural development within the region.

Additional, In this project, the dam type is Earth Fill with Clay Core, with 715,000 m of Grout Injection executed and 12 km of Access Route construct.

About This Project

The Balarud Diversion Tunnel and Reservoir Dam is a major hydraulic infrastructure project comprising an earth-fill dam with a clay core, a diversion tunnel, and associated water control structures. The project was developed to provide a comprehensive water management system through the construction of the dam body, tunnel, and supporting hydraulic facilities.

The project includes an 83.5-meter-high dam with a 1,054-meter crest length, a 1,000-meter diversion tunnel, and a reservoir with a storage capacity of 131 million cubic meters. Construction activities involved 1,000,000 m³ of rock excavation, 3,250,000 m³ of embankment works, 127,500 m³ of concrete placement, 8,150 tons of reinforcement, and 69,000 m² of formwork, together with 715,000 m of grout injection and the construction of 12 km of access roads to support project implementation.

Executed by Omran Maroon Engineers Co. as the Contractor, the project was completed in accordance with engineering standards and contractual requirements throughout the 72-month construction period, delivering durable hydraulic infrastructure designed for long-term reservoir operation and water management.

Employment

The construction of the Balarud Diversion Tunnel and Reservoir Dam engaged multidisciplinary engineering, technical, and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle. The execution of large-scale rock excavation, embankment construction, reinforced concrete works, diversion tunnel construction, grout injection, and associated hydraulic structures required the coordinated efforts of experienced professionals across multiple civil engineering disciplines.

As the Contractor, Omran Maroon Engineers Co. managed and coordinated all major construction activities, supporting efficient workforce organization and ensuring the successful execution of the project in full compliance with technical specifications and contractual requirements throughout the 72-month construction period.
